Anyone can decide to take the less-conventional path, but for one to stay the path, determination and consistency (not to mention nurtured talent) are invaluable. When DJ-turned-producer and entrepreneur BLXCKHIPPY decided to leave varsity and pursue his passions; one can imagine what the young Motswana’s inner circle might’ve exclaimed. Nevertheless, being a strong-willed young man with a vision for not only himself but the rest of his fellow creatives-at-heart, he kept on his way and only looked back to learn and adapt.
BLXCKHIPPY has been steadily participating in the music industry for more than five years. His distinct sound and versatility set him apart from other producers, probably because he believes in and practices a natural yet efficient creation process. 2020 was a tremendous year for BLXCKHIPPY, particularly his musical achievements. He excelled at showcasing his production chops in the otherwise tumultuous year by consistently putting out the “beetTapes” projects across the year, a collection that amounts to just under 50 published Hip Hop and RnB Instrumentals as well as some Singles.
BLXCKHIPPY’s work ethic transcends most, and his music can be found on the big worldwide streaming platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube and his Online Youth Radio Website, BLXCKHIPPYRADIO, incl. many other platforms that allow musicians to earn from their art. Which is why his leap into the BeatStars community came as no surprise. And serendipitously, it seems, this decision was the start of many blessings to come.
On the 14th of April, 2020, the online music marketplace famous for being the source of the track used for Lil Nas X’s global 2019 hit Old Town Road, BeatStars, signed a pivotal distribution deal with international music publishing firm Sony Music Publishing. The agreement would allow the BeatStars Community of talent to earn 100% revenue from their music through a fully backed distribution platform. This move would not only add to the online platform’s artist-centric business model; it would also add value to the industry as a whole through expediting the international music collaboration process. BeatStars’ Distribution platform would also enable musicians and producers worldwide to release an unlimited amount of music and the opportunity to collaborate on projects and split the earnings; however they see fit.
For BLXCKHIPPY, talent fuelled by determination, consistency, and far-reaching goals are invaluable tools that continue to lead him to success, and recognition is only an addition to his arsenal. So when an email arrived in his inbox on the morning of 7 January 2021, from BeatStars accepting him into Global Publishing Administration service, and inviting him to sign a publishing deal, fate, was far from his mind. This was the culmination of years of challenging fun work, and albeit the moment was surreal, his mind was already at work thinking up arrangements to take full advantage of this opportunity. “It’s a massive accomplishment for me because music is a big part of my life, and making music is second nature to me. I’ve been putting out more and more music into the world so that more people can hear and potentially vibe hard with what I have to offer, and clearly, BeatStars & Sony[/ATV] believe in my tracks as much as I do.”
"I’m looking forward to making more memorable tracks, especially with local artists as well so that we can all benefit from this great partnership. I wouldn’t mind seeing more Batswana getting where I am, where I’m getting to.”
